As the nights are drawing in and the days are getting colder, we thought we would start thinking about the party season coming up soon...why not make yourself this cute little 1950s party dress
Its actual very easy to make- much easier than it looks. The lace stitch pattern is only 1 row of patterning and 3 rows stocking stitch and then repeat....you will need to do a tiny bit of crochet around the neck too.
Its made with a 2 ply yarn- thats quite a fine yarn and the original one had a softness and slight fluffiness to it. It flares and drapes beautifully- but please note that to get the skirt to stick out you will need to wear a stiff layered 1950s net petticoat underneath. You can of course wear it without the petticoat and then you will have a gently flared and draped skirt which could look rather gorgeous too....
The pattern is available on our Vintage Visage website to purchase by clicking here or in our craftsy shop if you wish to pay by dollars.
The wearer obviously experiences royal feeling that is fuelled by the ogling eyes of the onlookers.

Hello!
I need your help about this pattern.
It says I need the following needles: size 5,7,9,11,12,13 and the gauge is 8 stitches per 1" on 11. I assume size 11 here is not 8 mm, simply because, as far as I know it is not possible to get 8 st per 1" with size 8mm.
Then I have a question about how much yarn I need. I searched for the yardage by skein of this yarn, but I did not find it.
Also I do not understand if the skirt is knitted from the waist down or the opposite. Maybe this would be clear if I was sure about the sizes of the needles...
Thank you!

Hi there-the yarn is 2 ply which is very fine.the needles sizes are vintage uk numbers and are equivalent to modern sizes 5.5mm (5), 4.5mm (7), 3.75mm (9), 3mm (11), 2.75mm (12) and 2.25mm (13). The skirt is knitted from the bottom up to give a flared effect. Please email us on info@vintagevisage.co.uk if you need any further info.
