Here at Vintage Visage we are great fans of edgings. A lot of the patterns we have are over a hundred years old and were originally meant to edge fine household linens. of course, you can still use the original very fine white or cream cotton yarns and make them for that today, but we feel that we can find other contemprary uses for these lovely patterns. Take this rose edging for example
This yes, would look lovely as a towel edging but lets think a bit more 'outside of the box' (we love that phrase- you might see us use it quite often!)
If we used a different thickness of yarn, say a 4ply or a DK, then it would make up quite chunky and big and could be used for edging jumpers, cardigans, handbags, coats etc. Also , if made up in DK or 4 ply, the roses would be quite a good size for making corsages or pins or brooches- imagine them made up in lots of pretty pinks, reds and creams......a great way to use up your stash and also to make to sell or to give as gifts. Pop them onto a card and you have got a very wantable item..... They could also be used for those of you who wrap presents beautifully as wrapping decorations on top of the parcel or to hold the tag.....
This pretty star edging could be used similarly....
This grape and vine crochet edging could be used as a trimming for hats if the grapes and leaves were made individually....
And this pretty butterfly could be made in thicker yarns - make 2 of these, sew them together add handles (crochet strips or rigid) and then you have a pretty little evening handbag...
The peacock filet square is lovely, and could be used as the basis of a garment or a handbag too....
See these edgings and more at our website and pop back to us tomorrow for more making ideas....
